The World of Teara Adan

Teara Adan uses a modified form of Medieval Christianity throughout the known world. The Church is headquartered in the Holy City of Altair in Solonda.

There are numerous Religious Orders to which the Clerical Characters may belong. There are also several small sects as well. Each of these groups has a different relationship with the Holy Mother Church.

Primary Religious Orders of The Holy Mother Church Order of the Voice of God: This is a very old Order within the Church. Many of the Clerics and Priests are from this order. HABIT: black robe with blue girdle

Order of the Word of God: This is one of the older orders and is comprised of semi-cloistered contemplatives. HABITS: Various, depending on where the Abby is located.

Order of the Knights of Aman: This Order is the primary Order containing the Churches military and teaching arms and the majority of the divine spell using priests, such as Clerics and Paladins. HABITS: Light Blue robes or surcoats with a gold cross.

Of the surviving Pagan faiths, most belonging to the non-human intelligent races through out Teara Adan. The Deities of the Elven peoples are the best known. Far in the northern isles there is a human pagan faith that is a mix of Norse and Elemental worship.

Lastly is the Heathen-Devil religion of the godless Uthani across the Great Maine River. This is the Great Cult refered to in the Histories of the New Era that worries so many on the east side of the Maine. And especially those in the Kingdom of Adan since the Floran penninsula has many ties with the Evil Uthani.

While the Holy Church officially condems the Heathens that donot convert to Christianity, it usually ignores most of the pagan groups unless they actively seek to expand thier beliefs outside of thier communities or try to convert Christian members in thier communities.

The Holy Mother Church does consider the Uthani to be thrice damned and beyond all hope of salvation. Official Church dogma asks that any Christian who runs across one of these unfortunates to kill them quickly so that God may have mercy upon thier souls.

One other group of heathens that the Church finds itself at odds with is the Anadari Knights. This group of Deryni and other psionic mystics committed grievous sins against the Church, her Lands and peoples 5 centuries ago. The Anadari Knights even declared a Holy War against the Church.

This attack against Christiandom by a group of Deryni has somewhat influenced the Church to be wary of the Arcane practices in general. The Church does not condem the Arcane energies themselves since it is the use that makes them good or evil.

But if the Church could control all of the training of those gifted with Arcane talents, that would be to the Glory of God, His Chruch and all of Christiandom.
